Busch claims victory in Chicago
Kyle Busch scored
his fifth NASCAR Nationwide Series victory of the season Friday night by
edging teammate Denny Hamlin at Chicagoland Speedway.
The win, by a comfortable 3.120 seconds, marked the 16th of Busch’s
career and it gave his Joe Gibbs Racing Team a tie with the series record
of 13 victories in a single season. In 20 races so far this year, Joe
Gibbs Racing now has as many wins as Richard Childress Racing recorded in
all of 2007.
“It’s definitely been a phenomenal year,” Busch said in Victory Lane. “It’s the kind of thing that doesn’t come along very often.”Busch noted, “We weren’t very good early in the race, but we made some adjustments, and this car just came to life.” Here what else Busch had to say in the post-race interview.
Hamlin started the race from the rear of the field, but by the end of the Dollar General 300, he had perhaps the fastest car on the track. Hamlin said Busch “just got too far ahead, and we couldn’t overcome the track position.”
Brad Keselowski, who is second in the series standings, ran third, followed by Brian Vickers in fourth and polesitter David Reutimann in fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart and rookie Landon Cassill.
