Kyle Busch wins at Phoenix for 13th series victory
Kyle Busch edged challenger Carl Edwards by .241
seconds to win his 13th NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix
International Speedway on April 11.
Busch, who tasted victory twice in a row this season, dominated the first half of the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200. Edwards passed Busch on Lap 159 and gradually pulled away to lead by more than three seconds before a caution for debris slowed the field on Lap 178.
In the final pit stops, Busch and Edwards each took four tires, and Busch beat Edwards out of the pits for a restart on Lap 184.
“Those boys won the race for us on pit road,” said Busch, who was able to hold Edwards on restarts after three subsequent cautions.
Busch said Edwards “had a great racecar, but it’s a good thing we had all those cautions that gave us a chance to get a two-lap bump on him.”
Denny Hamlin ran third, followed by Kevin Harvick and David Ragan. Mike Bliss, Stephen Leicht, Clint Bowyer, David Reutimann and David Stremme completed the top 10.
The next race in the series is the Corona Mexico 200 on Saturday, April 19 in Mexico City.
