Busch ties record for 10 wins in season
Kyle Busch dominated the
field in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race to win his 10th victory
of the season, tying Sam Ard’s 1983 record.
Holding off Carl Edwards in the final laps of the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway, the 23-year-old Busch marked his win by announcing he would donate $100,000 to Ard, who has Alzheimer’s disease.
Ard, of South Carolina, is a two-time Nationwide Series champion.
“Sam Ard was one of the pioneers of the sport and this really means a lot to me,” Busch said moments after the race. “I got to thinking about it and I decided I’m going to give him $100,000 to try to help him out.” Hear what else Busch had to say in his post-race interview.
Edwards fell from second to fifth place when he took four fresh tires during a late pit stop. He caught up quickly, taking second place from Mark Martin and getting within three car lengths of Busch on the final lap.
Busch, who won a series race in April on the same 1.5-mile oval, led 174 of the 200 laps in Saturday’s race to achieve his 21st career win in the Nationwide Series.
Edwards moved to 91 points behind series leader Clint Bowyer, with two races remaining. Martin finished third, followed by 18-year-old Joey Logano and David Ragan. Bowyer finished sixth.
