Cale Gale: Self-Driven
Most 4-year-olds are concerned about winning an argument with their 5-year-old sibling. Not Cale Gale. At age 4, he won his first competitive go-kart race. Six years later, he won consecutive state go-kart championships then earned a Rookie of the Year title at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway in 2000.
A
career in NASCAR began in 2005 when Gale, then 20, moved from his home in
Mobile to Spartanburg, N.C., to work as a shock specialist for Phoenix
Racing. Team owner James Finch gave him a chance in his NASCAR Nationwide
Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars. Gale ended up moving to Kevin
Harvick, Inc., in the latter stages of the 2006 season and competed in
seven NASCAR Nationwide Series races for the two-time series champion
that year.
In 2006, Gale also competed in the ARCA/REMAX Series where he won at Gateway International Raceway in just his second start. He calls that win the most memorable moment of his young racing career.
Gale currently pilots the No. 33 RoadLoans.com/Camping World Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in a part-time capacity for KHI. The shared ride affords him the opportunity to learn from Harvick when not behind the wheel. He finished eighth this past March at Nashville Superspeedway, his best result to date in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He also earned a top-10 starting position in his series debut at Nashville in 2006.
Arguably one of the best names in sports, Gale resides in Winston Salem, N.C. He’s single, and enjoys building shocks, playing computer games and racing go-karts in his spare time.
Here is more with Cale Gale.
Who/what inspires you?
Kevin Harvick for how good he is on and off the track.
Favorite track and why?
O’Reilly Raceway Park. It reminds me of the local short tracks that I
grew up on, and it’s a "racy" track.
If you weren’t a race car driver, what would you be?
A shock specialist.
What's the craziest/nicest thing a fan has ever done for
you?
Being blasted by a water gun. That turned into a big water fight after a
race one night at Mobile International Speedway.
If you could have dinner with two people who are no longer alive, who
would they be?
Dale Earnhardt and Tim Richmond.
Describe yourself in three words or less.
Self-driven.
Nicknames?
Gomer.
Most prized possession?
Trophies.
