Carl Edwards blew past points leader Clint Bowyer to win his
fourth victory of the season in Sunday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series
race at Richmond International Raceway.Bowyer led for 195 of 250 laps, but his car got loose on a turn with just 28 laps to go, giving Edwards a chance to grab and keep the lead in the Emerson Radio 250.
Edwards moved to second in the points standings, but trails Bowyer by 207 points.
“Clint was doing such a good job, but he was just a little free,” said Edwards. “He wiggled that one time, and that was all I needed.” Hear what else Edwards had to say in his post-race interview.
With Bowyer’s getting loose in the closing laps, Scott Wimmer passed him for the second position. Bowyer held the third position, with Denny Hamlin and David Ragan finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Hanna forced the rescheduling of the Nationwide Series race from Friday night to Sunday night, following the Sprint Cup event.
Brad Keselowski, who fought an ill-handling car throughout the race and finished 21st, dropped to third in the points standings, 279 points behind Bowyer.
Seven races remain in the series.
