Green Efforts at Nationwide
At Nationwide, we believe it's important to take care of the planet and to encourage others to do the same. It makes business sense, and it’s the right thing to do.
Even though we don't manufacture products, Nationwide recognizes that all business operations have an impact on the environment. We actively look for ideas on how to reduce waste and become more efficient. Now, we're sharing the story of our efforts to be responsible through a new brochure.
Here are some other ways we are making a difference:
- GreenSpot. Nationwide serves as an inspiration to other businesses in Central Ohio through its commitment to a new GreenSpot program. We are making 62 environmentally friendly commitments with GreenSpot, such as converting all office lights to energy-efficient ones.
- Our buildings. Several office locations are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified spaces. LEED buildings use recycled, sustainable building materials in their construction and are more energy and water efficient.
- Recycling. Since 1971, we've recycled a multitude of items, from plastics to aluminum to office supplies.
- Paper. We are working to require our paper suppliers to be Forest Stewardship Council-certified or members of Sustainable Green Printing. As a Nationwide customer, you can choose to receive your statements via email rather than postal mail. Want to help? - Policies. Our Scottsdale Insurance company offers coverage for alternative energy-generating systems and green homeowners coverage, enabling homeowners with a covered loss to upgrade to more energy-efficient products.
- Transportation. Nationwide works to host videoconferences, conference calls and on-site training to decrease the amount of travel time for associates. We also provide financial incentives for associates who use public transportation, and encourage bicycling for their daily commuting.
In keeping with our On Your Side® philosophy, we will continue to explore ways to become even better stewards of the environment.
