5 Tips to Safeguard Your Motorcycle
Motorcycle theft is a motorcyclist's nightmare. While stolen cars and trucks have a recovery rate of 60-65%, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that only 25-30% of stolen motorcycles are returned to their owners. Nationwide wants your bike to stay safe. Here are five ways to prevent motorcycle theft:
-
Tracking technology. Install a tracking system on your
motorcycle. These devices use GPS and other locating technology to help
police make a quick recovery.
-
Disc brake locks. Use these to lock the wheels of your
motorcycle so thieves can't ride or roll your bike away.
-
Locks. Lock your motorcycle to a secure, stationary object. If
you're riding with a group, link the wheels of your bikes together with
a chain.
-
Mechanical deterrents. Loosen a spark plug cap, pull a fuse or
shut off the gas to trick thieves into thinking your motorcycle has
mechanical problems.
- Location. Park in a well-lit, busy area. Thieves looking for a quick grab are likely to move on to an easier, less public target.
