Nationwide congratulates Chase Elliott on becoming the youngest champion in NASCAR history - wrapping up the Nationwide SeriesTM title Nov. 8 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Driving the No. 9 Chevy, the 18-year-old Elliott showed that stock car talent racing hasn’t skipped a generation. His father is 1988 Sprint Cup SeriesTM champion and 2015 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Bill Elliott.
Another twist in the storyline: The Elliotts are only the fifth father-son duo to win NASCAR national series championships.
The Nationwide Series has always been filled with unpredictability, drama and great racing. The thrilling combination has been the result of dedicated teams delivering competitive cars to the track for 33 races, developing young talent and the gallant efforts by Series drivers both on and off the track.
Nationwide is proud to have been title sponsor of the NASCAR Nationwide Series since 2008 and is grateful to the fans, teams and owners for their support.
Although we will not return to sponsor the Series beyond this season, Nationwide will remain active in the sport.
In addition to being the official auto, home, life and business insurance of NASCAR and presenting sponsor of the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, Nationwide will sponsor Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt for 12 races in 2015 and 13 races for the following two seasons.
