If my iPod is stolen from my car, is it covered?
Probably not.
Electronic
devices are not covered by your auto policy if they aren't permanently
installed in your car and if they don't use your vehicle's power. Since
portable devices like iPods and GPS units are not permanently wired into
your car – and often have their own batteries – they're generally not
covered. However, your iPod might be covered by your renters, condo or
homeowners insurance policy.
If you often carry high-tech gadgets like an iPod, laptop or GPS in your
car, speak with an insurance agent about your coverage and the insurance
options available in your state. Some states offer the option to include
these devices on your auto insurance policy for an additional
charge.
Remember, insurance generally covers the actual device itself – not the
music or data stored on it.
