ATV Insurance for your Farm or Ranch
Farm and ranch utility vehicles, like John Deere Gators or Kawasaki Mules, are designed for farm or ranch use and are usually not licensed for public road use. They can be insured on your farm policy. To have property coverage for damage to the utility vehicle, you will need to schedule it (list it separately with its own value) on your policy. From a liability standpoint, the utility vehicle will be covered when you’re using it both on and off your farm or ranch as long as the vehicle is designed and used for farm or ranch purposes.
On the other hand, recreational-use ATVs have liability protection only when used on the farm or ranch, but not off your property. If you or your family members routinely ride your ATVs off your property, ask your agent about an optional coverage you can purchase to cover off-premises ATV use. If you own recreational use ATVs, we advise you to err on the side of caution and purchase the optional coverage.
If the utility vehicle is licensed for road use, you will need to have a Business Auto policy or a Recreational Vehicle policy to cover it. Talk to your insurance agent about what will provide the best protection for your specific needs.
