Protect Your Family with Trampoline and Swimming Pool Safety Tips

Trampolines and swimming pools can be big fun, but they also can lead to injuries or fatal accidents.

And homeowners can be held liable for injuries and deaths caused by attractive nuisances or other dangers on their property.

However, there are several safeguards that can protect curious children and property owners. Here are some warm-weather safety tips:

Swimming pools

  • Secure your pool with a tall, locked fence and never let anyone swim unattended
  • Be sure ladders, handrails, diving boards, etc., are secure and in good condition
  • Construct pool area walkways and decks using non-slip materials, and keep them clear of obstructions
  • Store pool chemicals safely out of children's reach

Trampolines

  • Keep your trampoline within a locked, fenced-in yard
  • Tell your children to never use it unsupervised
  • Make sure hard areas, such as springs, hooks and the frame are covered with shock-absorbing pads
  • Don't put a ladder near the trampoline so small children can't climb up without your knowledge
  • Maintain your trampoline so it is always in good condition
  • Place it away from buildings, swing sets or other obstacles
