Know the Key Tax-filing Deadlines

No matter how you feel about taxes, getting prepared to file will make life so much easier when the W2s and other forms start coming in the mail.

If you haven’t received tax forms, W-2s, 1099s or other account statements by the first week of February, pick up the forms at the local library or contact your employer.

You also may get filing forms, worksheets and schedules from the IRS. And if you’re using a tax-preparation software package this year, you also may find what you need there.

Another deadline looms for those who reached age 70½ during the past year. You may need to take your first Required Minimum Distribution, a minimum amount of money the IRS requires you to withdraw from your retirement accounts each year, from your retirement plan by April 2.

And, of course, April 15 is the deadline for filing your federal income tax return.

Neither Nationwide nor any of its representatives give tax or legal advice. Federal tax laws are complex and subject to change. Please consult your tax or legal adviser for answers to your specific questions.
