John Carter to Lead Nationwide Retirement Plans

Columbus, OH — Nationwide Financial’s President and Chief Operating Officer Kirt Walker today announced that John Carter has been named leader of Nationwide Retirement Plans. Nationwide is a leading provider of retirement plans in the country. Carter previously served as president of Nationwide Financial’s sales and distribution organization, NFS Distributors Inc.

Carter replaces Larry Hilsheimer who is leaving Nationwide to pursue other interests. Carter joined Nationwide Financial in 2005 and has been responsible for the wholesale strategy and distribution of private sector retirement plans, life insurance, annuities, specialty markets and mutual funds through banks, independent broker dealers, regional firms and wirehouses. Through his leadership, Carter successfully implemented process improvements and distribution alignments to address unmet customer needs and improve the customer experience. Prior to Nationwide, Carter held executive positions with Prudential Financial, UBS and the former Kidder Peabody. Carter serves on the executive board for Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) and is active in the regulatory and industry efforts to help consumers prepare for and live in retirement. He also is a board member of the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) and serves on the Marketing Advisory Board of the Robert J. Trulaske College of Business, University of Missouri, his alma mater.
Dave Giertz will assume leadership of Nationwide Financial’s sales and distribution organization replacing John Carter. Giertz most recently served as a vice president of sales for Nationwide Financial.
