Nationwide hires new treasurer
David LaPaul brings 20 years of experience to the company

Columbus, Ohio — Nationwide recently hired David LaPaul as its senior vice president and treasurer, filling a key executive leadership position within the company.
LaPaul is responsible for Nationwide’s cash and liquidity management; acquisitions and divestitures; capital markets transactions; and rating agency management. He has more than 20 years of diverse experience working in public accounting and finance organizations of publicly held corporations.
“David's broad finance-oriented background and experience in accounting
and treasury, and the relationships he has in the industry will serve us
well,” says Mark Thresher, executive vice president and chief financial
officer at Nationwide. “We are pleased to have him join our executive
team and I look forward to his contributions in this role.”
Prior to joining Nationwide, LaPaul served as assistant treasurer for
Waste Management, Inc. in Houston, Texas. In that capacity, he was
responsible for analyzing the company’s capital structure, cash
management, forecasting, and implementing financial controls. In
addition, he managed relationships with rating agencies and more than 20
banks associated with the company’s $2.4 billion revolving credit
facility syndicate. LaPaul also previously held senior positions with
Lyondell Chemical Company and KPMG Peat Marwick LLP.
LaPaul, a native of Houston Texas, earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in business administration from Rice University Graduate School of Management. He is a CPA (Texas) and chartered financial analyst.
