Kirt A. Walker
President and Chief Operating Officer, Nationwide Financial
Kirt Walker is President and Chief Operating Officer of Nationwide Financial. He was named to this position in October 2009.
Kirt began his association in 1986 as an underwriter with Allied Insurance, which today serves as Nationwide’s independent agency channel. He held various management positions within marketing as well as underwriting before becoming Regional Vice President of the Rocky Mountain Region in 1997. He was named Regional Vice President of the Pacific Coast Region in 1998, President of Allied in September 2003 and was elected President of Nationwide Insurance, Exclusive Operations in November 2008. He was elected President and COO, Nationwide Insurance, in February 2009.
A graduate of Iowa State University, Kirt holds a bachelor of arts degree in management. Kirt serves as the Vice-Chair of the American Red Cross of Columbus for 2009 and will assume the Chair duties in 2010. He is also a member of the Board for the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU), a board member of the New Albany Foundation, and on November 1, 2009, will become a board member of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI).
While President of Allied, he served as a trustee of Grand View College, a member of the Executive Board of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and a member of the Iowa Business Council. He also served as a board member for United Way of Central Iowa and was co-chair of the United Way Tocqueville Society. Kirt co-chaired the American Red Cross (Des Moines chapter) 2004 capital campaign. In early 2005, he chaired the Heart Ball, the largest fund-raising event for the Des Moines chapter of the American Heart Association. Later that year, he was named CEO of the Year by Des Moines Business Journal. He is a current board member of the American Red Cross (Columbus chapter).
