Columbus, Ohio– The Nationwide Foundation announced today that it has awarded grants totaling $21,884,700. The gifts will help more than 1,000 non-profit organizations, including more than 800 local United Way chapters across the country. Grants announced today, combined with more than $9 million in pledges from Nationwide associates, will add up to nearly $30 million in charitable contributions for 2007.

Nearly half of the gifts announced today are directed by Nationwide associates, whose gifts to local United Way chapters and educational institutions are matched by the Nationwide Foundation. Nationwide associates can also earn Nationwide Foundation grants for eligible nonprofits by volunteering their time through the On Your Side Volunteer Network.

“We’re pleased to continue to be able to increase our support for the communities Nationwide calls home,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Foundation. “As our business grows, so will our ability to give back. Many of the organizations we support provide critical services to people in need of things like food, shelter, health care and disaster relief.”

Grant recipients include American Red Cross, United Way, Community Shelter Board, Domestic Violence Center, Lifecare Alliance, Charity Newsies, Columbus Museum of Art and Mid-Ohio FoodBank.
