Understanding Stable Insurance

An important part of your farm or ranch policy is the protection it provides for damage to buildings and structures such as your stables. Your farm or ranch buildings and structures must be listed on your policy to be covered.

Coverage for your stables and other farm or ranch structures includes:

• Water pumps and equipment including motors and outdoor equipment that pertain to and are used in the service of the buildings, as well as;
• Furniture, fixtures, machinery and equipment that pertains to the operation of the stable while located on or in the building or within 100 feet of the building.

Also talk to your agent about:

• Insuring your stables or other buildings for Replacement Cost or Actual Cash Value.
• The Causes of Loss (Basic, Broad or Special) you want to insure for.
• How much deductible should you carry? Higher deductibles may lower premiums. Depending on how much of a loss you are willing to pay yourself, you may be able to save on your insurance.
• Is the building valuation current?

Our AgriChoice^® policy also provides coverage for collapse to a stable or farm or ranch structure under certain conditions. The policy language provides the conditions and causes of loss for which a collapse would be covered.

If you construct a new stable or farm or ranch building during the policy term, consult with your agent to be sure you have the new building properly insured. AgriChoice provides $100,000 in coverage for new construction for a period of 60 days beginning at the delivery of building materials.

Many stables are equipped with built-in air conditioning systems. The AgriChoice policy automatically includes coverage for equipment breakdown or mechanical failure of any fixtures or systems built into a farm or ranch structure.
