Nationwide Foundation Announces $50,000 Donation to American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program for Flood Relief Efforts in the Carolinas

October 14, 2015

Columbus, OH - The Nationwide Foundation is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide much-needed support to people in Carolina coastal communities who have endured devastating loss as a result of record-breaking rainfall that caused severe flooding. Residents have been forced out of their homes, and some have lost everything. The Nationwide Foundation presented a donation of $50,000 to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program to help the growing number of families in need find relief from the impact of this severe weather event.

“We feel for the people in these communities whose lives have been impacted from the devastating aftermath of the heavy rainfall and flooding,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Foundation. "By partnering with the American Red Cross, we are helping to provide much needed relief for the victims of this terrible disaster and support progress toward recovery.”

Along with this donation, Nationwide claims representatives are on location, and agents and associates are providing humanitarian aid to those in need. The company has also joined the South Carolina Department of Insurance’s resource center to meet directly with residents, answer insurance related questions and file claims.

While the heavy rainfall has tapered off, it has resulted in dangerously high waters covering a wide swath of the area and creating hazardous living conditions for residents. The South Carolina Department of Transportation reported closures of more than 250 roads and nearly 200 bridges across the state.

Earlier this year, the Nationwide Foundation presented a gift of $1.1 million dollars to the American Red Cross in support of the Annual Disaster Relief Giving Program and local disaster relief support in 20 cities across the US. Through the strength of this partnership, Nationwide and the Nationwide Foundation are committed to supporting efforts to rebuild the Carolina coastal communities and providing aid to the people who need it most.
