All 26,000 associates drive our culture, creating an environment where everyone is appreciated and respected. Their distinct perspectives and talents set us apart from other companies. Nationwide intentionally makes diversity and inclusion an integral part of how we do business. We're proud to currently be on Fortune's “100 Best Places to Work” list for the sixth year in a row, Fortune's “50 Best Workplaces for Diversity” list, and to have received Gallup's “Great Workplace Award” every year since 2012.

Associate Resource Groups & Business Unit Councils

Our Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) and Business Unit Councils (BUCs) help associates find meaningful ways to connect with one another, moving our diversity and inclusion strategy forward. Nationwide’s ARGs allow our associates to network and be part of a group that matters to them. Our ARGs are comprised of a wide variety of groups that any associate can be part of based on their individual interests, such as LGBT, women, veterans and the disabled. These groups develop leadership skills, volunteer at community events, and recommend and/or implement creative ideas to enhance business performance.

Likewise, our 16 Business Unit Councils are structured across our many locations to ensure that diversity and inclusion has a broad geographical reach and is sustained in those areas.

ARG's in action across the country

Here are just a few ways that our ARGs benefit our company, our associates and the communities where we work and live:

  • The Pride ARG promotes Nationwide's participation in LGBT Pride activities, and hundreds of Nationwiders participate yearly in Pride parades. In addition, the Pride ARG led Nationwide associates in contributing over $10,000 to AIDS walks.
  • Military ARG members serve as recruiters and host hiring events for veterans. By early 2016, we had met our goal of hiring 1,000 veterans one year ahead of schedule – and committed to hiring 1,000 more by 2020.
  • During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Nationwide Latino Alliance ARG sponsored a countrywide week of community projects that included a walk for diabetes, and support for local food pantries and meal programs. The ARG helped pack 22,464 meals to send to children globally.
  • In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Nationwide annually hosts one of the largest MLK breakfast celebrations in the country.
An inclusive workforce is crucial to our success, which is why we are committed to pursuing and developing distinct and talented associates across the entire company.
