    Real-time hail and high wind alerts

    Nationwide has partnered with a third party to alert you when inclement weather is forecast. A farm customer can get alerts for up to 5 locations.

    Protect what matters

    We’ll send a text alert before the hail or high wind hits so you can take action to help protect your farm equipment, vehicles, livestock, crops, employees and family members.

    Please stay safe by using the following tips:

    • Advise all farm employees to take shelter in a safe, secure location.
    • Close exterior doors and windows to minimize the risk of damage.
    • Protect livestock from the elements by moving them to a sheltered area.
    • If possible, move machinery and equipment under shelter to minimize damage.
    • Secure any items that could be damaged or become hazardous in high winds.
    • Park vehicles in a garage or under shelter to protect them from hail and high wind damage.
    • Check livestock fencing for damage after storms to keep animals secure.
    • Inspect damaged structures and take steps to protect property from further damage.

    • Establish safe areas for employees to take shelter, and prepare them for emergencies.
    • Regularly inspect your property for structural or maintenance issues, such as loose roofing/siding, unsecured equipment or damaged structures.
    • Inspect grain bins for structural integrity, and secure anchor bolts.
    • Perform structural maintenance, such as reinforcing roofs, securing doors, and repairing damaged trusses, siding, posts and walls. This can greatly reduce the risk of storm-related damage and ensure that your property is better protected.
    • Invest in high-quality, durable materials for roofing, siding and fencing. This can significantly increase your property’s resilience against wind, hail and other severe weather conditions.
    • Turn off and secure irrigation systems to prevent damage.
    • Inspect the attic areas of confinement buildings for structural weakness and ensure that all supports are secure.
    • Trim trees and branches to reduce damage to surrounding dwellings and structures.
    • Use hail netting or protective covers to shield sensitive orchard or vineyard crops from hail damage.
    • Prepare emergency supplies, including food, water and first aid kits.

    Notifications are intended to inform recipient of possible upcoming hailstorms with expected hail greater than 1 inch in diameter, or sustained winds over 50 MPH (or gusts over 58 MPH) impacting the address provided by recipient during the sign-up process. Program subject to change. Nationwide intends to expand this notification program to include other weather alerts in the future.
