Nationwide Ringtone Setup Instructions

Note: In some instances, a ringtone may be downloaded directly to your device, but most smart phones require you to transfer a downloaded ringtone file from your computer using a USB cable. For more information, check your phone’s user manual or your service provider’s website.

Transfer a ringtone from your computer to your iPhone

The process for adding a ringtone to an iPhone varies by model and iTunes version. In general, to transfer a ringtone to your iPhone:

  1. Double-click your downloaded file. It will open in iTunes. If you don’t see it, check under “Tones.”
  2. Connect your phone to your computer with your USB cable.
  3. In iTunes, click “iPhone,” then the “Tones” tab.
  4. Make sure the “Sync Tones” checkbox is checked, then choose “Selected Tones.” 
  5. Click “Apply.” The ringtone should now appear in your Ringtones list under Settings > Sound.

Transfer a ringtone from your computer to your Android

The process for adding a ringtone to an Android device varies by phone type, operating system and service provider. In general, to transfer a ringtone to an Android phone:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer with your USB cable. 
  2. Drag your phone’s menu bar down and select an option to connect as a media device (language varies).
  3. A dialog box should appear on your computer screen. If it doesn’t, double-click “My Computer” on your desktop (PC) or look for the drive on your desktop (Mac). 
  4. Select the disk drive or SD card associated with your phone. Look for a folder labeled “Ringtones” (which may be a subfolder of "Media" and/or "Audio"). If you don’t see a "Ringtones" folder, create one.
  5. Drag the downloaded mp3 file to the “Ringtones” folder. The ringtone should now appear in your Phone Ringtones list under Settings > Sound & Display.
