1. Identify burn hazards

  • Recognize sources of burns: Hot surfaces, steam, open flames, chemicals and electrical equipment.
  • Understand the types of burns: Thermal, chemical, electrical and radiation.
  • Conduct regular hazard assessments in work areas

2. Use proper PPE

  • Wear flame-resistant clothing when working near heat or fire.
  • Use gloves, face shields and aprons when handling hot or corrosive materials.
  • Ensure PPE is in good condition and fits properly.

3. Follow safe work practices

  • Never bypass safety guards or procedures.
  • Use tools and equipment as intended.
  • Allow hot surfaces and equipment to cool before handling.

4. Maintain a safe environment

  • Keep flammable materials away from heat sources, ensure all chemicals are labeled and stored correctly.
  • Label hot surfaces and hazardous areas clearly.
  • Ensure proper ventilation when working with chemicals or heat-producing tools.

5. Be prepared for emergencies
