The Insured operated a call center and e-commerce website that was breached, resulting in the phone system and website being shut down.  Breach counsel and a forensics/incident response vendor was immediately retained, and the Insured’s system was quickly secured and restored.  Notwithstanding, the Insured did suffer a loss of business income for the time its system was down, and it could not provide delivery services to its customers.

Outcome: Insured’s system was secured and a payment of $400,000 was made for the Insured’s business interruption loss.

The Insured’s system was breached resulting in most of its systems being encrypted and several of its backup systems being deleted.  Breach counsel and a forensic/incident response vendor was immediately retained, and the Insured’s systems were rebuilt using backups and new drives.  The threat actor initially demanded over $250,000 for a decryption key.  It was determined that the threat actor deleted files and cleared event logs, but there was no evidence of exfiltration.  Accordingly, no payment was issued to the threat actor.  The Insured submitted a business interruption claim in connection with the income it lost as a result of the breach.

Outcome: The Insured’s system was restored and payment of over $100,000 for the Insured’s business interruption loss was made.

The Insured suffered a ransomware attack resulting in an encryption of its endpoints with ransomware.  Breach counsel and a forensic/incident response vendor were immediately retained.  Forensics worked with the Insured to ensure that the systems were secure and that restoration efforts were being made.  While restoration efforts were ongoing, the threat actor made an initial demand of nearly $400,000.  After several rounds of negotiations, the ransomware negotiations concluded with a five-figure payment to the threat actor in exchange for a decryption key.

Outcome: A resolution with the threat actor was reached for a significant amount less than the threat actor’s initial demand and the Insured’s system was restored.
