Land As Your Legacy®
Protecting the future of farming by protecting families' financial futures
Your family farm and ranch communities face a future of uncertainty like never before. And while it’s true operators can't control the weather or geopolitical trade barriers impacting their success, they can take steps to help protect their financial well-being.
A proprietary program from Nationwide, Land As Your Legacy is designed to help farmers and ranchers build an actionable transition plan. With a national network of trained Land As Your Legacy advisors and agents, they have access to financial professionals who can help them both today and for generations to come.
A trained Land As Your Legacy financial professional can help with 5 key elements:
- Succession planning: Creating the path to successfully pass the business to the next generation
- Business planning: Reviewing the business structure to best protect the financial health of the operation
- Risk management: Identifying and preparing for risks to the farm operation
- Financial independence: Creating financial independence from the farm so that the next generation can start receiving income from the operation while the senior operator keeps serving as a mentor
- Estate planning services: Getting documents in place to create an orderly distribution of assets upon death

while still adding value to your existing relationship.
We’ve served farm communities like yours since 1926
You may be surprised to learn that Nationwide was founded in 1926 with the help of a loan provided by the Ohio Farm Bureau. Today, 9 of our 16 board members are actively involved in agribusiness, and we all believe in giving back by helping American farmers. We understand that one of the biggest challenges to the farming community is the ability to pass farm and ranch property to future generations.

Common questions you may hear as a trusted partner
Expand all
For a complete plan to help address the family’s needs, we do need 2 years of tax returns, legal documents, balance sheets and any other business or personal documents currently in place to support farm operations.
Actionable plans require both financial and legal components. The more information they share about their agribusiness, the more accurate their plan will be. With each transition plan we create, our purpose is to ensure that the family's unique needs are met.
There is no charge for the financial plan we will create. Nationwide covers this cost to help fulfill our promise of supporting our agriculture partners. Please keep in mind that expenses may be incurred by the operator when it comes time to implement the plan. This could come in the form of setting up legal documents, purchasing a financial solution or paying other implementation fees or expenses.
Keep the connection going
In the future, your farming and ranching network may begin working with one of Nationwide’s certified Land As Your Legacy advisors trained to utilize our time-tested process. These financial professionals will work with our home office team of highly credentialed legal and tax specialists to develop a customized transition strategy for the farm family. This plan will then be brought to life with the help of their Land As Your Legacy advisor, attorney and/or accountant. You can help by periodically checking with them to ensure that progress is being made toward their goals. If you have any concerns, please let us know.
How to support your Land As Your Legacy families
A best practice may be for you to go along with them on the first meeting with your local Land As Your Legacy advisor. Because they trust you, they may feel more comfortable about the meeting, and you may be able to help with financial details they might not fully grasp on their own. This also gives you the opportunity to get to know the financial professional better.
Future updates
When you have a family in the Land As Your Legacy program, you will receive periodic reports from Nationwide. This is an opportunity for you to find out where they are in the process. It also allows you to make sure the Land As Your Legacy advisor is taking care of them.
