Life insurance eligibility requirements for non-U.S. citizens
Non-U.S. citizens can apply for life insurance in the U.S. if they have a Social Security number (SSN) or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Eligibility typically depends on things such as your residency status, purpose of stay and how much time you spend outside the country.
Document and ID Requirements
Nationwide requires proof that you have a significant presence in the U.S. This means you'll need a valid ID, such as a visa, green card or passport, and an SSN or ITIN.
Valid visa types:
E1, E2, E3, EB5, H1B, H1C, H2B, H4, I5, K1, K2, K3, K4, L-1A, L-1B, O1, 02, 03, TD, TN-CA, V1, V2
Note: Acceptable visa types vary by life insurance product.
Approved countries list
For non-U.S. citizens, life insurance eligibility often depends on your country of origin. Nationwide maintains a list of approved countries and assesses the current political and social stability of your home country to determine qualification.
