Find a defensive driver course

Many states offer accident prevention or defensive driving classes. These courses are usually certified by a state’s Department of Public Safety or Motor Vehicles. They’re available online or at local driver’s education schools.

What to expect at a defensive driver course

If you’re interested in a defensive driving course discount, you’ll need to take a class. These classes typically include a review of:

  • Traffic laws
  • Environmental hazards
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Basic car maintenance
  • Drug and alcohol education

To earn the defensive driver discount, you must complete the state-certified course with a passing grade. The amount of the defensive driving insurance discount varies, but usually runs around 5%.

More ways to save
