Strategy overview

Geneva engages in fundamental analysis seeking to identify high-quality companies with superior management teams, and having low leverage, and a consistent, sustainable record of growth. They believe investing in such proven, high-quality companies leads to superior returns with below-average risk over a market cycle.

Geneva believes qualitative characteristics are as important as quantitative characteristics and focuses on identifying passionate, innovative and experienced management teams with a proven record of success. The company must be a leader in its industry and must also possess a sustainable competitive advantage that will support above-average growth going forward. Quantitative screens eliminate companies that do not meet earnings and revenue growth rate hurdles, low debt-to-capital requirement, above-average margins, and high return-on-equity and return-on-asset ratios. The investment process focuses on holding high-quality companies for a long period of time.

The strategy is expected to produce consistent alpha relative to the benchmark index and the small-growth peer group. Geneva’s bottom-up fundamental approach tends to be in favor when the market champions companies exhibiting quality secular growth, which tends to be in favor during periods of economic uncertainty and market distress. This has historically resulted in a low volatility, low beta, low capture (downside and upside) return profile relative to the benchmark index. Long-term value-add is anticipated by tilting towards companies and sectors exhibiting low leverage, high profitability, and high efficiency ratios.
