We proudly honor the values of our founding farmers from 1926: hard work, grit and determination. What started as a small mutual company, owned and operated for the benefit of its policyholders, has grown into a leading provider of farm and agricultural insurance and one of the largest insurance and financial services companies in the world.
Throughout this journey, we’ve stayed true to our agricultural roots and mutual heritage. We have continuously adapted and evolved to ensure that our customers have what they need, when they need it, supporting the hardworking individuals who feed and sustain the nation and the communities that inspire us daily.

The transition to Nationwide allowed for a stronger, more unified brand that continued to prioritize the needs of farmers and ranchers under the "Nationwide is on your side" commitment.
Circa 1960
Introduction of risk management service to ag cooperatives
Specialized services and products for the agricultural community cemented Nationwide’s role as a trusted partner in the farming industry. The same year, Nationwide acquired Farmland Mutual Insurance Company, based in Des Moines, IA. Farmland had been founded in 1909 by grain elevator cooperatives that needed insurance coverage for their wooden grain elevators.
2009
Introduction of Farm Certification program
Nationwide’s Farm Certification program equips insurance agents with specialized training on the unique, ever changing needs of farms and ranches. We’re the only farm insurance provider that trains and certifies our agents.

Launch of the Golden Owl Award®
Honoring outstanding ag educators, the Golden Owl Award spans 15 states and continues to grow. To date, it has awarded over $600,000 to support teachers, students, school ag programs and participating state FFAs, advancing ag education.
