Sara Martinez Tucker is the former chair of the University of Texas System Board of Regents. She was elected to the Nationwide Board of Directors in 2018.
With the Board of Regents, Tucker led the governing body of the UT System and oversaw each of its 14 institutions. She previously served as CEO of the National Math + Science Initiative – an organization focused on improving student performance in science, technology, engineering and math. Additionally, from 2006-2008, she served as undersecretary for the US Department of Education, and was CEO and president of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund from 1997-2006. Her experience also includes a 16-year career with AT&T, where she advanced to regional vice president of Global Business Communications Systems leading a $400 million division to its highest profit levels.
Tucker also serves on several other boards of directors, including American Electric Power, Cornerstone on Demand and Service Corporation, International. She is also a member of the University of Notre Dame’s Board of Trustees and Board of Fellows. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Texas at Austin.
